Natural History Museum Student Board

Student board activities include gallery openings.

Are you a KU student looking for a way to get involved in the KU Natural History Museum? Join the museum’s student board!

Founded in 2007, the KU Natural History Museum Student Board is a new breed of student organization. We take an interdisciplinary approach to student and community involvement in the museum. Our mission is to forge connections between the museum and campus, students and staff, and the arts and sciences.

Students who join the student board have the opportunity to:

Organize, curate, and publicize an interdisciplinary exhibit. Students have the opportunity to engage the public through an entirely student-run exhibit. The exhibit, which occupies the stairway gallery in the museum, explores scientific topics using the creative talent of Kansas artists. Directing the exhibit is fun and provides students with experience in the realms of jurying artwork, curating, writing labels and gallery construction.

Plan and host events for students. The board members can get involved in campus outreach to students on behalf of the museum. Previous events have included science art show openings and open house events that showcased specimens from the museum’s collections.

Get involved in the museum. Explore your creativity by creating podcasts about the museum, improving museum exhibits or volunteering to work at one of the museum’s public science events.
