Dyche had been collecting and preserving mammals and birds for the university’s cabinet of natural history for years when, in 1889, he was officially named professor of anatomy and physiology, taxidermist, and curator of mammals and birds. Professor Snow’s cabinet of specimens outgrew its space, largely because of Dyche’s prolific hunting and collecting.
